I'm currently looking at the iAudio X5. It supports linux, OGG Vorbis, and FLAC all natively. droool. It's got a powerful internal amp, and is said to be one of the best sounding portable players around. The interface isn't as nice as the iPod, but currently I'm thinking the convenience offered by mounting this as a mass storage device in linux outweighs that. (There is talk of the Rockbox open source firmware project being ported to the X5 series sometime in the near future too.) The 30gb model comes in an extended version with about double the standard battery life (rated at 35 under ridiculous conditions...I imagine it's a bit closer to the mid to low 20s range depending on use.

Of course then there's the give a mouse a cookie syndrome....now I'm gonna need some Ety 4p IEMs to go along with it.....

For those still interested in Linux compatible mp3 players, you might
check out the iAudio series.  The iAudio U3 officially supports Linux
and plays mp3/ogg/wma/asf/flac/wav/mpeg4(video)- the only problems I see
are that it's a bit pricey and has a built-in battery.  The iAudio G3
doesn't have a color display but is a bit cheaper and uses a AA battery.
