The gear alarm is use early pressure

To answer your questions, it could be any of the questions you asked.

At the price of a gear and labor to replace it, I would find out ASAP!!!!!!

Subject: [UnifliteWorld] Re: Transmission Light and Bell

Can anyone tell me what the alarm for the Transmission indicates?

I have a 46' 1984 with twin 671's and capital gear transmission. Coming
home the other day the light was barly flickering on and i got a single ding
from the bell. It stopped after a few minutes. While it was doing this i
had someone take the helm while underway and i went below and checked the
gears for oil level, oil temp, and anything else i could see. I saw nothing
wrong and All was normal. Both gears had good pressure with no indication of
what could be causing the little alarm bell and light.

My questions are

1. What is the alarm an indication of? Is is pressure?

2. Could the sending unit be bad?

3. Could I have a bad connnection?

4. Where is the sending unit located? I see a unit on the shift mechanism
that is tied into the oil line but it only has one wire going to it, the
other wire is diconected.

Any informatoin would be a great help and put my worried mind at ease.

Thank you

Kevin Martin
