<begin rant> NO NO NO do Not use a portable gasoline generator on your
boat. They are UNSAFE for use on boats. Aside from the fact that they are
not marine grade and subject to rapid corrosion damage, they are air cooled
and have very hot exhaust, most importanfly they are a MAJOR source of
deadly carbon monoxide (CO). PLEASE do not consider using one on your
boat. Just because "lots of people do it" doesn't make it right. This
advice comes from a retired marine surveyor with ABYC certification. Use
of a portable generator could jeopardize insurance coverage in the event of
a claim. <end rant>
