Bob, I have an '84 42 aft cabin, (42 SE II).  I don't know the configuration of
you 42, but in mine the Genset is in the engine room on the port
side near the forward bulkhead.  The water heater is outboard of the
Onan.  Changing the water heater was a bear and while that was going on I
figured that if I ever change out the genset, I would make the stairs,
those going down to the galley from the salon, open.  Or at least remove the
stairs during the genset swap.  My genset is right next to the
under side of the stairs.  Is yours similar?  Have you considered this
method?

>Has anyone had their gen. set replaced. I have a 7.5kW Onan MDJE that is
flat worn out and am going to have a Yanmar 7 kW installed. I have a 42 ft. aft
cabin and it's going to be a real bear to get it replaced. Any thoughts on this
and approximately how long did it take?
