Just to clarify my earlier posting, when I said I thought it was ok for
FSBO's to advertise on the list, i certainly didn't mean they should do it
to the exclusion of real estate agents doing the same. I think it's great
to post every new house that goes up for sale.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I find the housing market in West
Philly highly relevant to this list and to my life. Every house near mine
that sells affects the value of my home. And the people who live around
me affect my quality of living. It's in my interest to know about the
houses for sale so that I can encourage people I know and like to move in.

This list may have been created specifically for discussions, but it's
certainly not the only way it's been used historically. People use it to
make announcements and advertise all sorts of things, some of which cost
money, and some of which don't: Yard Sales, Boy Scout pancake breakfasts,
community meetings, farmer's markets, large musical instruments, concerts,
etc. Why are houses any different?

If someone wanted wanted to sell the original leaded glass windows in their
house, or the beautiful 100-year old radiators they have, would you rather
they go downtown and sell them to a dealer who will probably end up selling
them to someone in the burbs at a huge mark-up? Or post them to the list
and keep them in the neighborhood? To ban all "for sale" postings on this
list would not only be extreme, but a disservice to all of us who actually
might be interested in buying something offered.

If you don't like a certain posting, just delete it. i have never
understand people's apparent inability to comprehend the usefulness of the
"delete" button on their keyboard. There are whole discussions on this
list that are not relevant to me and that I couldn't care less about. I
delete them. Heck, there's one person on this list that got on my nerves
so much a while back that I just set up a filter to delete everything he
posted.

My 2, no make it 4 cents.
