Okay I've made sure ssh is running, and I've put PuTTy on the XP machine. I can fire up PuTTy and log into the Linux box using my username or root so no problems here.
I've changed smb.conf as follows: [Media] path = /media valid users = robbie public = yes writable = yes I've restarted Samba, and eventually the shared folder appeared in My Network Places on the XP machine. Double clicking the folder brings up the password box but it won't accept the right password! I've tried my own username and password, and I've tried root and its password but it won't accept them, and I'm at a loss to know why. Anyone got any ideas?
