Thank you for comments. No, I don't need a "big load". It's just going to serve files (and run a few server daemons, e.g. slim). But, I do want several TB. And since 24 x 7, low power consumption.
Currently thinking along the lines of Turion based MB (I'd be inclined to experiment with Pentium-M, but can't find any Pentium-M boards with >4 SATA headers. With the new 750GB drives, I think 6 drives would be enough. I'd like to avoid using additional cards-- just want to use the on-board stuff. Don't need any fancy video or audio. Will probably run headless anyway. It's going to be a file server, not an HTPC or gaming machine. Don't care about size or appearance or noise (although I suppose if I succeed in reducing power, it'l probably be relatively quiet, too).
