I ran my server on an ancient, way past very old PC under mandriva for years. Worked great. But I have fallen out of love with Mandriva. I use Ubuntu for my desktop machines and pure debian for my servers > I want thus to try the Ubuntu distro, but if my computer is an old one, > will slimserver work with a "Absolu minimum" version ? Not sure exactly what you mean here. Since you are facile with Mandriva, I'd try both using pure debian and Ubuntu Server. The pure debian has all the gui stuff I need. "symaptic package manager" is equivalent to MCC's installer, does dependencies, etc. Both Ubuntu and Debian use the same .deb files to feed the package manager. Actually, Synaptic is just a gui for 'apt-get' and 'apt-cache' shell commands Installing SqueezeCenter 7 is painless Disclaimer: there is no "best" -- Pat Farrell http://www.pfarrell.com/ _______________________________________________ unix mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/unix
