Two issues I've seen. 1. You must get the permissions right in the Alien Plugin tree, including execute permission on mplayer.sh. i don't think that is your problem - IIRC a bad mplayer.sh causes an immediate failure. But do check.
2. mplayer has to be available in the standard path and work.
