Hi again and thanks for all suggestions. Unfortunately I still couldn't
get it working, I tried the server kernel, the intrepid kernel and even
a whole new distro, Fedora, all to no avail. Now I am trying to examine
more in detail the role ethtool has in this context and would need some
help again. Would someone with wol working be so kind and check if
'lspci --vv' gives a different output with wol enabled for the ethernet
card than the same command with wol disabled?
These commands as root would be needed:
ethtool -s eth0 wol d
lspci -vv
ethtool -s eth0 wol d
lspci -vv

The relevant part of the lspci output is the line in the Ethernet
Controller section that should be similiar to this:

Capabilities: [48] Power Management version 2
Flags: PMEClk- DSI- D1- D2- AuxCurrent=0mA
PME(D0-,D1-,D2-,D3hot+,D3cold+)
Status: D0 PME-Enable- DSel=0 DScale=1 PME-

Many thanks, signorRossi.
