Hi. I am running Ubuntu 8.04 LTS and SC 7.3. The software seemed to
install OK and I was able to open a Firefox browser window using the
http:// address for the machine on which Squeezecenter is installed. I
do not have a player and just want to use Squeezecenter as my GUI
across a network with several computers.

Squeezecenter successfully scanned all my music (from the folder
/media/music1/music1) into its database - but, I can't play any songs
on any machine. I can pull up artist information - the number of CDs
and songs are listed but when I click on the buttons to either play a
song or add it to the playlist, nothing happens.

I have installed the current Java version (6-11) on the computer and
made sure it works.

The only thing I can think of is that "root" is the only user who has
permissions on the /media/music1/music1 folder. I have attempted to
change the permissions using

sudo chmod 777 /media/music1/music1

but nothing seems to change. Which is strange, because I have copied
music to this folder from various other computers over my network - but
apparently now that directory/folder is locked. I can see that if there
isn't universal read capability from that folder that this might be the
problem. I am going to restart the computer and see if I can change the
permissions then.

Meanwhile, if anyone has any ideas, please let me know. I at one time
used what was then called Slimserver software with Red Hat FC4 - yes it
was awhile ago - and it worked flawlessly. Ever since I have attempted
to use the software with any version of Ubuntu I have had nothing but
problems and have never been able to get the software to work.

Thanks and happy holidays.
