Thanks for all the responses. I guess this is one of the "off puts" for someone new coming to Linux for the first time...you spend ages looking around and gen'ing up on what would be a suitable distro to use...go for it, and then spend an eternity being told by everyone that you've picked the wrong one!
As for FreeNAS, it's not Linux, it's FreeBSD but does have very low requirements on resources(which I guess was your point)...I've been running my own FreeNAS server for about 2 years and I love it. I would still have my Squeezeserver running on it if it weren't for one drawback...I can't integrate musicip with squeezecenter on it... I'm going to persevere with Puppy. It fits all my requirements and that after all is the beauty of linux. I've tried using a different squeezeserver download. I used the tar ball file and converted that into a puppy .pet package using the tgz2pet tool however when I installed it, it installed all the directories to \ which created quite a mess. I'm going to reinstall puppy and start again over at the puppy forum and then post back here when I've installed it successfully. -- BodgeIT Whether you think you can or you think you can't, either way you are right! *DC: 7.4 - 26846* on *WHS SP2*(VMWare 1.8 Device(No Sound Card)) Slimp3(FW 2.3), Receiver(FW 61) & Controller(7.4 r5580). ------------------------------------------------------------------------ BodgeIT's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17100 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=64337 _______________________________________________ unix mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix
