That's really up to you.   I personally like having the sorts set to
what I think is correct order (the way they would be filed in a record
store).  If you don't like that, then it's -best- to set sort tags on
how you want things (ie, is '21st Century Schizoid Band' under '2' or
'T'?) or you can let the defaults take over, but make sure you don't
override the defaults in ways you don't like.

You're confusing the sorts.

ARTISTs are sorted based on ARTISTSORT (or MUSICBRAINZ_ARTISTSORT and
perhaps there is an id3 tag for that, too...)

ALBUMS are sorted based on ALBUMSORT (or music... etc)

Both have defaults which are derived: if no ARTISTSORT is provided,
words in the article list (defaulted to 'the', 'los' etc) are stripped
from the beginning of the name and the name is folded to upper case. 
The Beatles will then sort into the B's.

Again, if you don't like this, you will have to change your SORT tags
so they don't take on the default.
