Squeezelite should try to set the output thread to sched FIFO anyway if it is allowed to (turn on debugging to see) - so if you run it as root or a user who is able to set sched fifo then this should help.
Re sync - Squeezelite is intended to do the same things hardware players do, the difference will be the specific output device and driver to see if it reports delay accurately and also the load on the system.
