If among the 204 pages of comments, my answer appears somewhere, I apologize for posting my question.
I'm trying to get my BBB running on squeezelite but am having trouble getting it to talk to my Berkeley Alpha USB converter. As an aside, that device runs fine on Daphile on my pc. When I enter: "squeezelite-armv6hf" at /usr/bin# on the BBB, I get this in response: "alsa_open:273 unable to set period count Invalid argument" I tried using hottub's suggestion (from the comments section in the following post: http://www.computeraudiophile.com/blogs/k-man/configuring-beaglebone-black-run-squeezelite-452/). So I entered: "./squeezelite-armv6hf -o hw:CARD=Output,DEV=0 -a 16384:1024::" but that command just causes the device to hang. Nothing happens until I hit Ctrl-C to stop the process. I've tried variations on the above command with no success. My devices list is as follows: default:CARD=Output - Alpha USB Digital Output, USB Audio - Default Audio Device sysdefault:CARD=Output - Alpha USB Digital Output, USB Audio - Default Audio Device front:CARD=Output,DEV=0 - Alpha USB Digital Output, USB Audio - Front speakers surround40:CARD=Output,DEV=0 - Alpha USB Digital Output, USB Audio - 4.0 Surround o utput to Front and Rear speakers surround41:CARD=Output,DEV=0 - Alpha USB Digital Output, USB Audio - 4.1 Surround o utput to Front, Rear and Subwoofer speakers surround50:CARD=Output,DEV=0 - Alpha USB Digital Output, USB Audio - 5.0 Surround o utput to Front, Center and Rear speakers surround51:CARD=Output,DEV=0 - Alpha USB Digital Output, USB Audio - 5.1 Surround o utput to Front, Center, Rear and Subwoofer speakers surround71:CARD=Output,DEV=0 - Alpha USB Digital Output, USB Audio - 7.1 Surround o utput to Front, Center, Side, Rear and Woofer speakers iec958:CARD=Output,DEV=0 - Alpha USB Digital Output, USB Audio - IEC958 (S/PDIF ) Digital Audio Output (Sorry for the broken up text format) Given the number of hours I've put into this process and my almost total lack of experience with Linux, I'll greatly appreciate any help anyone has to offer. Thanks in advance.
