Hi folks,
I have been trying to install LMS on my Slackware 14.1 box. I have tried
various methods with versions 7.7.5 & 7.8 with no success. Below is the
summary of my three days of googling and trying various options.

Initially I was trying with the downloads from the Logitech site. I
first tried the deb & used deb2tgz to convert it to a Slack package as
this has worked well in the past. LMS appeared to start using this but
was subsequently found to be not running.
-bash-4.2# /etc/rc.d/init.d/logitechmediaserver start
Making sure that Logitech Media Server is not running first:
start-stop-daemon: warning: killing process 12244: No such process
Starting Logitech Media Server.-
However I am unable to connect to any LM server.

Checks using 'ps', 'netstat' &'lsof' confirmed that there was no
'logitechmediaserver' or 'slimserver' running & that port 9000 was not
being used. Checking my filesystem revealed that
-/var/run/logitechmediaserver.pid- had been created and contained a
valid id and had not been cleaned up. There was nothing on the command
line to indicate any problem, only the '-Starting Logitech Media
Server-' message described above. There was no sign of any associated
logfile.

After several attempts (with variations) I removed the package &
downloaded the tarball, again from the Logitech site. This was extracted
and examined.
Googling provided various mentions of 'building' the module from these
files but I found no build-files? Reading the 'Installation.txt'
mentioned using the command './slimserver.pl --daemon' to start LMS.
Attempting this threw up the following message.
-The following modules failed to load: EV HTML::Parser JSON::XS
Digest::SHA1 Sub::Name

NOTE
_(..._see_below....)_

Exiting....-

A search of my filesystem showed no instance of EV.HTML.
The _NOTE_ mentioned getting a file called 'buildme.sh' from github,
this was fetched & run with the following result..
-bash-4.2# ./buildme.sh
./buildme.sh: line 5: syntax error near unexpected token `newline'
./buildme.sh: line 5: `<!DOCTYPE html>'-

After a bit more playing about with variations on all the above themes I
downloaded version 7.8 & tried all the above again with very similar
results for each option.

I have now run out of ideas, can anyone help?
