Hi Michael,
Thanks for your help on this.

I am using MySQL for another app. Will SQLite coexist on the same host?

'locate' can find no insance of any server.log on the machine. There is
nothing new in /var/log. syslog & dmesg show nothing related.

My 'wget' seems to be misbehaving, the file was a copy of the github
page source code.
I have now downloaded all the files from ...../7.8/CPAN and substituted
them for the CPAN contents in my building directory. When I ran
buildme.sh in this folder all appear to build ok and ended with what
looked like a network speed test. I now see a 'build' directory under
the CPAN directory but, as far as I can tell, nothing appears to have
been copied to any running directory.

I tried running ./slimserver.pl --daemon again and recieved exactly the
same report as above i.e.
-The following modules failed to load: EV HTML::Parser JSON::XS
Digest::SHA1 Sub::Name
etc
-

In case it helps:-
I shall stay with version 7.8 as it is the most recent & current stable
version, hence most standard?
I am running 32bit Slackware 14.1
The host is not a dedicated server but my main desktop machine and has
an 8 core CPU with 12Gb RAM.
My perl version is 5.18.
I foresee no need for LMS to handle anything but audio files. it will
only be used to drive a newly acquired Squeezebox Classic.

I know I've got to be doing (or not doing) something silly:o but I'm
lost amongst the installation code. Only used to package managers or
-configure, make, make install-s so please excuse my ignorance.
