HDCD? Have you set volume fixed to 100%? No replay gain and no crossfading set?
At least in my experience, you can test bit perfectness most easily with dts-Wave packed as flac. If your AV plays your dts file fine, then everything is bit perfect, else you hear just noise. Give it a try. By the way, why don´t you rip your HDCD and convert those files in software to 24Bit wav files?
