If it were me, before Looking to commercialise any product based on the work of Adrian Smith, I'd take legal advice specifically on the use of GPL v3 as the basis for a commercial product, as there may be implications as to releasing source etc, and the commercialisation of Adrian's work was against what the original intent was of squeezelite.
Also looking at some of these changes (that mean absolutely nothing to me as I'm no audiofile), they are catering for a very narrow use case. Adrian was always careful with the changes he implemented in squeezelite to keep the code tight and be useful in as wide number of use cases as possible - and his vision helped to create this active community on the Logitech forums, which I'm indebted to. I would like to see whats left of the Logitech community flourish, but in reality, the majority of users are after simple easy to use hardware/software that supports the music services they subscribe to. LMS (and squeezelite) was/is great but these days there are many different more convenient ways to stream audio at high quality throughput the home. It doesn't really matter how enthusiastic the remaining community is - if the solution isn't in touch with the masses - it will fail as music services become less open and more about the commercial tie-ins and partnerships. And lets not forget the reality is people who still frequent these forums are not your average class of user - they are enthusiasts but they are not typical of the overall music streaming userbase. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ashleyw's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=58923 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97046 _______________________________________________ unix mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix
