Interesting question so I decided to do a quick test (or so I thought as
I started some 2 hours ago). Turns out that a Raspberry Pi B+ in
combination with a HifiBerry DAC+ does not work with piCorePlayer 1.21g.
I had to revert to 1.21a for the DAC to become available again and also
change config.txt in the process as JiveLite did not start automatically
(this could be the result of me changing from 1.21g to 1.21a).

A headless FLIRC will work but you will have to attach a (HDMI) display
the first time to configure JiveLite. The first time JiveLite starts it
asks for a language and you also need to select a skin (e.g. Joggler).
Then save the setting using the command line or the Backup button on the
web interface. When you are sure JiveLite starts normally you can power
off and disconnect the display. The FLIRC will continue to control
JiveLite.

You have to be very carefull with the buttons you press as there is no
visual feedback. Ideally you will only want to configure a few basic
buttons on the remote. Pause/play, volume up/down, skip to next/previous
track and power on/off all work with my FLIRC.
