I agree entirely that Samba is in no way a backup option whereas rsync
definitely is but that's not primarily what people are asking for and in
that respect they are correct in saying that on this point, and as far
as I can tell only this point, max2play better meets people's needs for
LMS.

PCP is by far the better option IMHO as a player and I was pleased that
you added LMS. As I said it doesn't matter to me as my music files are
on a NAS (actually 3 replicated NASs) and staying there but I do access
the shares directly via Windows when I am ripping or tagging and that's
the bit people want if I read the situation correctly.

I do appreciate the need to keep PCP lean so suggest you make Samba
entirely optional but easy for those who have never heard of smb.conf
