I think this is the case - as LMS has to create a stream equal to the
capabilities of the "worst" player in the sync group so this may require
trasncoding /downsampling by LMS so that all players play the exact
stream even if they are capable of playing a better quality.  

DirectPlay is only relevant to unsynced player - this is where stream
goes to player without going through LMS.
