I finally managed to get enough of the Jivelite build copied over to the
internal storage to make it run without a USB stick. I made a list of
the libraries needed, then made two tarballs from that list - one
containing the symlinks, and one containing the linked library files
(the --dereference option). Then I made a third tarball containing
everything to do with Jivelite, the ts utilities, the scripts run by
Roobarb's applets, the startup scripts etc. I sent them to the internal
version, untarred them, and after a few false starts it's up and
running.

Next step will be to follow the steps to make a flashable image of the
internal version. Then I'll have an end-to-end process, and it'll then
just be a matter of finishing all the scripts and applets. The new
'netplan' approach to networking in Ubuntu Bionic does seem to make the
network setup easier. It seems to use the newest network.yaml file that
it finds, and keeps a backup of the last one it used, so I think the
'Network' applet will just need to have a way to write the ssid and
password to the network.yaml file in /boot.
