Hi again,
I've had to put the G3 card in another machine for a week or so,
becuase I need the extra speed on our Mac OS 9.1 server as it will be
catching some heavy load.
In any case, I will try pulling the 16MB memory when I refit the
card to the 7300 & I have already removed the L2 cache - I have used Ryan
Rempel's Cache enabler, which captured the settings from the 9.1 system.
Pulling the L2 cache stopped the Kernel Panics as well.
The heatsink is fine & the temp was sitting at 33C when I checked
it out after some hours of use. I have a 10000rpm hard drive with a massive
fan on it & it's keeping the whole system a lot cooler. The 604e processor
card runs a fair bit hotter than the G3 - very noticeable when I felt the
warmth of the machine.
Also, yes, the card is seated right to the bottom of the slot -
I've struck this on other 604e cards as they can be quite difficult to get
in. The G3 card was a nice fit, but not too tight.
Thanks for your help - I'll let you know when I have refitted the
card & tried it in the machine again.
Bye for now, Terry Allen
