That's fantastic! I find it strange that it works for you in Classic,
but not X (without a workaround). I have found Classic to be very
hardware ignorant.

I have a couple of extra computers (PowerMacs) lying around that I had
hoped to eventually use as print servers. I do not have an extra monitor
yet, however. Perhaps once set up I could run one headless as a
printserver. One is a PM 6100(72 ram) running 8.1, the other is a
PowerBase 240 (144 ram) running whatever I decide to put on it.

I have a DSL router with a parallel port print printer jack ( most
likely of no use to me) and (again) an Epson Stylus Photo 700 (ADB only).

Does anyone have any ideas or advice about setting up these up so that
the printer works on the network without much additional expense. Epson
made an ethernet adapter for printers like mine, but I wonder whether
that would be necessary with a dedicated print serving computer on the
network...

Thanks in advance for any help all you wise people may have for me and
others like me in this probably all too common conundrum.
