Well no not yet at least! Quantum is still running as an independent
unit. I bought a 30 gb Quantum drive since they've been sold. It
still looks and works like a Quantum. By that I mean it is still the
sold metal looking drive they have always made. The Maxtor is
different looking perhaps the case is at least partly plastic? I was
concerned they would cheapen the drives but not so far.In fact Maxtor
drives seem to be getting better. I still wouldn't buy one as IMHO
Quantum and Seagate are both better at this moment in time. But many
people are happy with them. Western Digital has made more defective
drives then anyone still in business.(IBM is a close second in the
last year or so) However they do stand behind their drives with
warranty replacement as you said. IBM for a while was putting a note
in the fine print saying they were only meant to run 8 hours a day.
They got so much bad press on this they relented after a class action
suit was filed. They as I said have now sold their hard drive
business.
PS want to sell a couple of those old Quantum drives? I have a Mac
Classic 2 that needs a hard drive. Will S
