Dear List, I hope you can help me with this, it's driving be nuts...
We are talking about a 7500/Formac G3 400mhz card/640 mb ram/ OS 10.1.5 box. This box ran like a *rock* ( better than my 533 DP G4), with an old TT 8mb Vid card. Then I did several things to it: I fitted an ATI 128 Rage card, 16mb VRAM, upgraded to iTunes 3 and Aquisition 0.62 (?). It is now a complete pig. Neither iTunes nor Aquisition will not stay up for long before they either quit (Aquisition) or lock the box up completely (both apps) requiring a forced restart. Both Mail and Mozilla will stay up fine. At one point I thought this was a swap related problem as my built in disks are very small but even when I move the swap partition to an external firewire drive (with SwapCop) with plenty of space I have the same things happening. This behavior persists when I re-fit the old TT Vid card. The weird thing is that if I reset the motherboard the thing flatly refuses to boot (black screen, the HD makes normal noises for about 15 secs and then dies) *until* I refit the old Vid card again. With the ATI fitted, it's dead to the world. I then run techtool/diskwarrior, fix everything up and then refit the ATI card to resume "normal" operations, complete with crashes. I don't think there is anything wrong with the ATI as such but it's strange none the less. The other thing is that the "network" system panel now refuses to appear. The box networks fine but I can't access any settings, I just get a white panel. This never used to happen. Does anyone have any thoughts?
