You're definitely on to something here...

I just took all the ram out except for the only pair of 128mb sticks, which 
must be a matched pair, and this is the only time I have been able to boot 
the box with *both* vid cards installed, *and* it booted after a CUDA reset.

I'll run it for a couple of days like this to see how it goes. It means I 
only have 256mb ram but if it's stable...

Isn't it funny how just thinking aloud can sometimes move things along...
