OK, as I sit here at work on this dreaded NT machine, I figured that I would let you all know how I got my 8500 (604e) and 9600 (G3) machines I was having trouble with upgraded from 10.1 to 10.1.5. As you may recall, in the last few weeks I was ressurecting old machines for family use and wanted the latest that each processor could take. I found it hard via apples downloads section of their site to get the proper update sequence. After a few software updates recommended, all I would get is installers that would show me grey (uninstallable hard drives.
Well, here is what worked for me on my two machines. In this sequence. Install from 10.1 install CD fresh from clean drive. Do not use Software update program. I actually disable mine and set to manual. Macupdate.com has their "System" section: and I clicked on the "Mac OS X 10.1.5 Updater" link which gave me http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/7977 from there, there is a list of links on that page. Click on "MacOS X 10.1.5 Combo Updater" link. Which takes you here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=122011 Now here we are taken to a page that you may opr may not have seen before. I did not but this is where the Apple downloads section does not point you unfortunately. Enough about that. Click on the link called "Networking Update 1.0 for Mac OS X" this will take you to this page: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=120124 Click on the Download link and install that and reboot for good measure. Then after rebooting, head on over to the MacOSX downloads area: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/ and hit the link: "Mac OS X Combo Update 10.1.5" , download and install that and reboot for good measure. You should be good to go and be running at 10.1.5. Now a lot of this was done from memory and copy and pasting my process paths from the apple website. Remember, I am typing this on an NT machine here at work with no access to a mac that has OS X on to confirm. But let me go SSH into my 8500 to find the EXACT filenames of the downloads I used on that machine. They should still be on my desktop. OK, I am back and I SSH'ed into my webserver and then from there, ssh'ed over to my 8500 mailserver (NEAT!) and i have 2 .DMG files i used on both machines and here are their exact filenames: SecUpd7-18-02forv.10.1.dmg (this is the key one and it is not like any of the other links and download/installers I had used in the past. This is the first one to use after clean 10.1 install. THe second is: MacOSXUpdateCombo10.1.5 So, there is what I have for info. I hope you all have great luck in getting up to 10.1.5. I had trouble and since i did not remember the sequence i used on the 8500, i booted up my 9600 G# last night and since i had pulled a scsi drive out of it the other day, it did not want to mount the OSX drive that had jag on it, so i figured i would go thru the process of installing 10.1 and then the two elusive updaters to get old world (pre G) machines up to 10.1.5. I could have put Jag right on it but figured I would let you all know. Apologies if there anr any typos here. Backup data first and all! I will be in front of my 8500 tonight and can (wink, wink) get somebody the updater(s) if needed if it cannot be found. Gotta run. the Exchange server just sent me some actual work to do. Like... bummer ;-) Erik Gilchrist mailto:erikgil@;metagrafix.com ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ d e s i g n . d e v e l o p . d e l i v e r :::::::: http://www.metagrafix.com :::::::: -- Unsupported OS X is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> Support Low End Mac <http://lowendmac.com/lists/support.html> Unsupported OS X list info <http://lowendmac.com/lists/unsupported.html> --> AOL users, remove "mailto:" Send list messages to: <mailto:UnsupportedOSX@;mail.maclaunch.com> To unsubscribe, email: <mailto:UnsupportedOSX-off@;mail.maclaunch.com> For digest mode, email: <mailto:UnsupportedOSX-digest@;mail.maclaunch.com> Subscription questions: <mailto:listmom@;lemlists.com> Archive <http://www.mail-archive.com/unsupportedosx%40mail.maclaunch.com/> --------------------------------------------------------------- >The Think Different Store http://www.ThinkDifferentStore.com ---------------------------------------------------------------
