This is true, if you have 8.5-9.2 you can simply remove the 
'Application Switcher' extension, you won't have a tear off menu 
anymore nor will you be able to use the keyboard to switch apps, but 
you will have free rein over your apps now. Please note that this 
doesn't work under OSX because this is a part of the dock or OS.
