darn it!

had a feeling it was one of those 'built into the os' type things....

just have too live with it i guess....

have found this great 'application switcher' though that makes the 
process feel a bit more friendly. check out:

lite switch x at http://www.proteron.com

theres also asm which gives a handy 'app menu' in the top right hand 
corner of the screen. brings back the hide app/all functions. dont work 
in 10.2 yet but worth trying when it's updated.
