I tried using the new XPostFacto in both OS X and OS 9 and I get the same results. It goes thru
the loading extensions process, then I get a message saying that there is a disk error. I click OK
(my only option), and then the computer restarts, but I either get the gray apple in OS X (which
sits there for about 10-15 minutes), or I get the "we are hanging" message in OS 9.
I've tried it on two different drives on two different partitions (one on my IDE and one my SCSI),
but still the same results.
I have a 9600, and I am now running Panther on it. I used XPF 3.0a7, though version 3.0a8 is out already, which takes care of the cache problems people were having.
If you're not using it yet, try 3.0a8.
