I think we misunderstand one another. I did not mean the aspect ratio itself being the problem, I wanted to say: when I change the aspect ratio of the view to match the photo, RS chooses a default filmsize with the same ratio. But The horizontal filmsize has a fixed default size. The vertical size is changed to follow the chosen aspect ratio. I think my statement was not clear enough. For my camera this constant is 3.93, probably > different for yours. I think this sounds logical indeed. When you have a look at the camera diagram on the wiki. You'll see that film size and focal length together, determine the view angle. So If you choose the wrong film size you should multply the focal length with a certain value to compensate the error.
