I think that's a very good comment re releasing free software 
killing improvement of software.  That is, at least as far as 
making development of alternative proprietary software very 
difficult as a commercial concern.

The motivation(s) for continuing development of open-source software 
won't be touched by this but it will make things difficult for 
companies, such as Realsoft.

Of course, I can't see Microsoft developing for Linux any time soon 
(although I think it will have to happen one day) so we may see 
commercial developers moving to open-source platforms to make a 
living, and as a by-product, making the open-source platforms more 
attractive.
