Hi Henry and welcome to RS

I am not sure... but I think someone made a PDF version..
maybe someone else can confirm or deny this..

Some additional to what Arjo already said about snapping in RS..
You can also hold down '4 key' (Lasso) then draw around the needed point(s) (This and dragging box works in 2D) IF you combine either Dragging box or Lasso with holding down ', key' (comma key), then the snapping works in 3D !

You can also use the '5 key' (Snap to Point, works always in 3D) or the '6 key' (Snap to Curve)

The disappearance of the materials in the materials tab, is due to that RS v5 uses a Layered Undo buffer system ! So if you have the Material Tab active, and make an Undo (Ctrl z), then it undos the loading of the material library (So just use Redo (Ctrl y) while having Mat Tab active and Mat Lib comes back!)
The upcoming V7 has a chronologic Undo..

Here is a page with tutorials and tips&trix..
http://realsoft.info/

God luck and I hope you will have a fun time with RS...
and just ask more if needing help !

Take Care
Best Regards

First time poster here (so I hope I am doing this correctly, most
forums seem to have a web interface) and first time RS3D user (got the
free offer of RS 5 in 3D World magazine.

I am going through the HTML manual (I wish there was a PDF version)
and trying to get the snapping to work. I can select the corner of a
rectangle object okay, but it doesn't seem to snap to any other object
(like another rectangle) in any way.

Also, the materials in the one panel seem to disappear often.

Also looking for more instructional tutorials. Seems the user support
for RS is a little thin.

Thanks,
