Hi Yuriy and all.
Hopefully RS will get more and better ways to control pointwise colors and
other attributes of particles, like size and so on.
btw, one way to set the colors is to use the Map2Obj Tool. (A nice tool that
really should have more docs !)
1. Create an object to be an particle emitter, like a sphere.
2. Drop the sphere into a new level.
3. With the new level selected, use the 'Link' Tool ('Creation' Tab)
4. With the Link selected, use the 'Emitter' Tool in the 'Particles' Tab.
5. With the Particle Obj selected, open 'Properties' Win and 'Spec' Tab,
5a. -> In 'Rendering' Tab UnCheck both 'Post Processing' and 'Scan Line', Check
instead 'Ray Tracing'
5b. -> In 'Geometry' Tab Set the 'Count' Field to wanted number of particles.
(This must be done, else RS creates new particles and the colors set with
'Map2Obj' Tool will be pointless.)
6. Play the anim, so the particles emit and is spread out as you want, stop
anim there !
7. Select the 'Root' Level, and drag n drop a material into the view (or create
a material mapping)
(With it you color the particles !, the way you want)
8. Render the view, to see if the particles get the wanted colors.
9. Multiselect the Particle Obj and the Material Mapping, then start the
'Map2Obj' Tool (from the 'Tabbed Toolbar's 'Materials' Tab.
(Set it like this, 'Target' -> Points, 'Source' -> Color, 'Destination' ->
Color !)
(If you want coloring only some points, you can set 'Target' -> Selected Points
)
10. You can now either delete the material mapping or just drop it into a level
(to reuse it later)
Now the colors are stored pointwisely to the particles.
You can now rewind and use the emitting anim and the particles will keep those
set pointwise colors ! =)
I found at least one thing that isnt working as it should and would be nice if
it did,
RS didnt Record these things in Anim Record Mode, 'Map2Obj' didnt set keyframes.
So I couldnt set different color keyframes with the 'Map2Obj' Tool...
hmm when I think of it.. I am sure I have seen Matthias set keyframes with the
'Map2Obj' Tool.. his cool RS logo (controlled with script) or something.
btw. even easier.. just use the Particles 'Colorize' option ('Spec' Tab then
'Constructor' Tab -> 'Colorize')
Then add the Material Mapping like this
Particle Object
Sphere (Emitting object)
Material Mapping (Marble or whatever material) (Set this as RT invisible if
you only want to color the particles and NOT the emitter itself)
Take Care

Subject: particle
Hi, all.
The simple question how to operate color of each particle individually?
The only option I found is not quite functional.
Good luck,
Yuriy.
