Just to keep you up to date. I removed the "magnoliaPublic" folder completely and pasted an all new lately downloaded folder in the webapps directory. Now it's finally working again... But it was so odd, that you can get yourself in a state where nothing is working anymore simply because you've made some wrong decisions in the setup and you have to reinstall it again.
