Using the 64bit version of OpenOffice.org that comes from the Ubuntu
repository and the 64bit version of the PostgreSQL sdbc driver seems
to work for me - but when I switch to the 64bit version of Vanilla
OpenOffice.org ( from the same location that you mention ) then I can
not get that 64bit component form the Ubuntu build to install - and I
just assume that since the binary available for it from the
dba.openoffice.org location is listed as 32bit it isn't going to work.
Just my $.02 worth.
I think Drew is right: if you unzip the driver, you'll see that linux
binaries are in a folder named "linux_x86.plt" (windows binaries are in
a folder with no arq. indicated! issue?), so when you install the
extension, OOo "knows" that there is no binary for your platform;
nevertheless it gets installed and enabled.
If I rename the folder "linux_x64.plt", and install it in my x86, I will
see in the extension manager that the extension is enabled, but if I
expand the tree, there are no binaries.
So you can try unzipping, renaming the folder to "linux_x64.plt", and
zipping again. Sure the binaries get installed, BUT it may/will not
work, because it is compiled for x86.

most linux distros come with all the tools needed to build.
