Well.... thanks for the replies Andrew & Ariel but I am dumbfounded... 

I had just assumed it was architecture-agnostic because this it what I have
used with beta 64bit 2.3 builds. And it worked then!

I'm nonplussed there is no 64bit sdbc driver available from the OOo website
itself...

I'll give this unzipping & folder-renaming a try.
