Unfortunately that didn't work exactly but it was on the right track.

I unpacked the Ubuntu Gutsy openoffice.org-sdbc-postgresql amd64 deb &
extracted 
'/usr/lib/openoffice/share/extension/install/postgresql-sdbc-0.7.5.zip'.

I used the Extension manager to install that, restarted & managed to connect
& run some queries in DEV300_m4.

Thanks again!

Now if only there was an official 64bit build on the OOo postgresql driver
page... ;)
