You can try building it yourself:

most linux distros come with all the tools needed to build.

Your right about building it - just reading over the steps for
building now it appears that it calls for it to be built using the OOo
1.1 build environment - but that may be out dated.
It really would be worth it -
For one thing, PostgreSQL 8.3.x really shines and with the
announcement by EnterpriseDB about their new releases ( developer
copies are free, BTW) and IBM's announced investment it should give a
nice commercial boost.
Two - Base is one module that appears to really benefit from running
under the 64bit OS. Or at least that is how it seems on my machines so
it would be really nice to have this for the OpenOffice.org official
release and not just the Ubuntu variant.
I wonder how much work it would be to get a build of this using the
2.4 / 3.0 sources and build environment for OOo and 8.3.1 libraries
for PostgreSQL?
Hi Drew,
let me tell you that building OOo from the sources is very easy (at
least more easy than I thought), it will only take you time[1], and may
be the first time/s your build brakes, but once you get it... last time
I left my PC all night long building alone :-)
It really would be worth to try it, because a program build in your own
computer is likely to run far better on it!
[1] my last full build took 11:17:33, see the html output

the connectivity module only takes 01:02:51
