I have been promoting and working on Grid Engine since June 2001:

http://beowulf.org/archive/2001-July/004341.html

And where was Univa during all those years? Did Univa contribute a single line
of code to the SGE cvs? Did Univa answer a single question on the SGE mailing
list?

IMO, Univa sees that Oracle ending open-source SGE development as a business
opportunity rather than a way to support the open source Grid Engine community.

Univa fixed a few bugs in Grid Engine, and wanted the Open Grid Scheduler & the
Son of Grid Engine projects to work with them? So that they can eliminate the
number of open source Grid Engine implementations?

Univa is actually doing more damages to the open source Grid Engine community
if what Dave says about Univa spreading FUD is true. It did not allow more
people to use this technology. Yes, Univa hired some Grid Engine engineers
(not the whole team, Oracle still has people working on Grid Engine) from
Oracle, but this at best only helped the unemployment of Germany.

If Univa is serious about contributing, it would not have used this FUD to
damage the open source Grid Engine reputation in the first place. And secondly,
Univa should contribute something that it owns (UniSight, UniCloud, Grid MP)
than fixing some bugs.

Now we know that Univa has no intention to work with the open source
Grid Engine community (even without the benefit of hindsight, I knew at the
beginning). We as a community should just move on. I will contribute a few
things to both the Open Grid Scheduler & the Son of Grid Engine projects in
the future.

Subject: Re: [gridengine users] Beware Univa FUD

To be fair, the proposal I understood involved some sort of `governance'
body as Sun originally proposed but never constituted.  I didn't see
lack of previous contributions as a problem, but I was in the same boat,
acting because I thought someone had to.

For information, I'm afraid the warning appeared just to be attacks on
another commercial interest and then the warnee.
