FWIW, this issue has been receiving a fair amount of examination. That doesn't imply adoption of the capability any time soon or ever, just that it's an active topic right now. I see it as a positive thing for those who would like to see a Shift-Click Drag & Drop function.
Did you ever say which version of Excel you could shift+drag in. I couldn't do it in Excel 2002.
