test driving Writer. So far I am impressed with it. There are a few
features that either I can't find or are not available yet. FYI. I
am a business consultant - my usual output is in the range of 45
pages, usually with about 5 sections. I will often have one page in
the text that needs to in landscape which I could handle if OO if
the following features were (are?) available.
Insert section (next page)
o Go to Insert | Manual Break... | Page break.
o Go to Insert | Section... .
But it is worth saying that you should perhaps attend to why and when
you need to do this: just because this was a good idea and the right
way to do something in Microsoft Word doesn't mean that it is the
right solution to the same problem in OpenOffice Writer.
Print, one page only, current page
o Go to File | Print... .
o In the Print dialogue, under "Print range", click the radio button
for Pages.
o If necessary, enter the required page number in the box. (In my
version - 3.0.0 for Windows XP - the current page number appears
automatically.)
Format page - change one page only (in 45 page doc) to landscape
layout. (in MS Word (Office 03) for PC, this is handled by inserting
a new section for this page only; In that 03 MS Word you can fix the
page numbers by selection header/footer and choosing continue from previous)
To do this, you need to use styles. If you are new to OpenOffice, it
will be well worth your time getting to know what styles can do for you.
o Go to Format | Styles and Formatting (or use the Styles and
Formatting button in the Formatting toolbar, or press F11).
o In the Styles and Formatting window, click the Page Styles button.
o Click the New Style from Selection button and select New Style
from Selection from the drop-down list.
o Give your new style a name (perhaps "Landscape").
o Right-click the new style where it has now appeared in the list,
and select Modify... .
o Make whatever changes you need, in particular selecting Landscape
under "Paper format" on the Page tab.
o You have now created the required landscape page style, and can
close the Styles and Formatting window if you wish.
o Put the cursor at the end of the material just before your
required landscape page.
o Go to Insert | Manual Break..., select "Page break" under Type,
and - here's the clever bit - select your new style from the
drop-down list under Style.
o Now go to the end of the material on the landscape page and repeat
the process of inserting a page break, but selecting an appropriate
portrait page style (perhaps Default, or whatever you have been using).
In Writer, you don't need to "fix" the page numbers, which will flow
naturally. If you need something different, you can make changes to
page numbers on the Insert Break dialogue.
I trust this helps.
