What is a Thunderbird page?  Two things come to mind:

1) You're saving without a file name extension and your operating system
doesn't know the file type.  If so, select automatic filename extension,
when you use "Save as".

2)  You're saving as an HTML document, which might be recognized as a
Firefox file.
