I missed that as the thread has branched several times :-) I just tested here on openSUSE 64 bit using 64 bit OOo, and page preview works as expected for a 70 page document, and also for a 950 page document I'm working on. Sounds like you're on the right track that something is broken on your end.. CUPS can be a pain... and possibly where the issue is... I don't have any more ideas than what has been discussed in the thread already.
