In the "save as" file picker window the MS Word 2003 option is at the

on the small arrow at the bottom of the list and scroll down to it.
At least that's the way it works on my 2.4 version.
No, it's not there. My drop down box does not have 2003. It only has
2003 XML.

I don't see it, either and I expected to, at

I do see a Unified Office Format somethign or other, but no idea what it means. And the 2003 XML the OP mentions.

I have 3.1 on XP Pro SP3+.

I wonder if .RTF would work or mess up things? It's great for text documents but can go off track on you with complex documents, IME. RTF can be used by just about any editor. Or maybe it's considered included in one of the other definitions, but if I were a writer I'd want to know for sure, not just hope it works and discover a month from now a bunch of things that don't correlate properly.

The Word 2003 standard .doc format is the same as 97 - XP. I transfer files between OO.o Nd Word 2003 all the time. using the Save As 70/200/xp format.
