Hi, I use open office on various linux platforms, (Currently Kubuntu, OpenSuSE, & Sabayon...) For the most part I think it's great! But it does something that I find very aggravating. There are some floating
toolbars that tend to pop up while editing an document with tables in open
office writer...

Because I have difficulty keeping a mouse pointer where it needs to
be, I use keyboard methods of navigation almost exclusively. But every
time the cursor enters a table, the "table" floating toolbar turns
itself on. It gets in my way, I have absolutely no use for it, (If I
wanted to do any of the things it's waiting for me to click on,
I would use <alt>+A to access the table menu with the keyboard.).
The pointy-clicky toolbar which I would never use is often in the way.
And even when I select it off in the view menu, it comes right back if
I move the cursor the wrong way. I spend so much time turning the
durned thing off that sometimes I forget what I had the document open
for in the first place. It kind of reminds me of that dang annoying
paper clip that kept getting in the way back when I used to use MS-office
at work.
There is a similar issue with the small floating picture toolbar that
pops up when I manage to click 'somewhere' within the boundaries of an inserted
graphic, except that in that case, If I remember to "start" with the right
click first, I can, at least usually, get what I went there for done before that
useless toolbar gets in the way.
Like I said,n the subject is there a way to turn this behavior off???

Thanks

There are a couple of different possibilities. To get rid of these toolbars completely (you can turn them back on if needed, of course):

   * Perform an action that makes the toolbar appear.
   * View > Toolbars and deselect the toolbar in question.

Another possibility is to "dock" the toolbar (move it to an edge) while it is showing. It will then continue to appear and disappear while you work, but it won't float over your workspace.
