Are you on windows or Linux?
Are you looking at a file that ends in .zip?, .tar.gz? other?

Windows: You need a utility like WinZip (Free trial version available: http://www.winzip.com/)

Linux: depending on the distro, you may have a gui command to unzip---otherwise, open a terminal and enter commands:
if it is ***.tar.bz2, then:
bunzip <filename>
tar -xvf <filename>
this gives a folder labeled RPMS---what happens next depends on your distro

So-----let us know your configuration, and we can be more useful.

Hello,

I am computer illiterate. Just wanted to get that out of the way. I downloaded the
"stable" version of openOffice and after it downloaded, I got an icon on my
desktop. I have to open it with something, but I don't know what to open it with... Can
you tell me? I just don't know how to unzip it!

Please help, as I would like to be using openOffice as soon as possible.

Thanks
