Because your send address is not subscribed, and many of us have set rules to identify who is not subscribed. Most everybody will "Reply All" on unsubscribed accounts to ensure the OP gets a copy of the mail. That is why you get two copies.
For me, at least, Reply All to an unsubscribed user's message does *not* include that user, just the list. I'm using Thunderbird 2.0.0.24 (20100228) with no unusual settings, and I can't see any that would affect this behavior. I have to explicitly copy the unsub. Perhaps this explains some of the responses that omit the unsubscribed OP from the addressees, if people expect the automatic inclusion; I've seen this Reply All technique suggested before.
